A Caterpillar 16H motor grader in Coal Extraction Area F. Like a woodworking plane the 16H moves along shaving away the terrain to create a level surface. It can reach up 28 mph (just over 26 in reverse) using its 8 forward and 8 reverse gears.. The blade in the middle is called the Moldboard and is 16 ft wide.
